Designed to Disrupt campaign wins 2024 Consumer Advocacy Award

Flequity Ventures is thrilled to be a joint winner of the 2024 National Consumer Advocacy Award announced by the Consumers’ Federation of Australia at the ACCC National Consumer Congress today.

Our award was for our designed to disrupt partnership with the Centre for Women’s Economic Safety and our advocacy for financial abuse to be recognised as an unacceptable customer behaviour in the terms and conditions of bank accounts and general insurance policies.

As relatively new kids on the block we are honoured to be recognised alongside CHOICE and with finalists Financial Counselling Australia and Consumer Action Law Centre. These organisations work tirelessly for better consumer protection and the campaigns recognised today were to improve customer outcomes in telecommunications and general insurance and to secure industry funding for financial counsellors.

Collectively we have spoken with more than 2,000 people, and we did interviews resulting in more than 1,000 media mentions. It’s been behind closed doors and out in front.

The result? Last March zero banks in Australia – now 25 businesses across telecommunications, banking, education, general insurance and technology have joined respect and protect to make it clear they don’t want their products weaponised for financial abuse.

We do this work on behalf of the many women who have had financial products wielded as weapons of financial destruction, and we stand with the consumer advocates and specialist services who work tirelessly to keep women safe. Our recommendations draw on their expertise. This award is for them.

And we’re not stopping until every business that offers joint accounts or online access to services follows the lead of the first movers!
